NIVGive to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
NIVDo to others as you would have them do to you.

NIVHe also told them this parable: "Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?
NIVThe student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.
NIV"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
NIVHow can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

NIVAs for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like.
NIVThey are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.

NIVWhen the men came to Jesus, they said, "John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, 'Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?' "

NIVAfter John's messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?
NIVIf not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces.
NIVBut what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

NIVThe Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.'

NIVAs she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
NIVWhen the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is-that she is a sinner."

NIVJesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to tell you." "Tell me, teacher," he said.
7:41和合本耶穌說:「一個債主有兩個人欠他的債;一個欠五十兩銀子,一個欠五兩銀子;
NIV"Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, ote style="f" caller="+"> 7:41 A denarius was the usual daily wage of a day laborer (see Matt. 20:2). and the other fifty.

NIVAs they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
NIVThe disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.
NIV"Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."
NIVThey sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee.
NIVWhen Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs.
NIVWhen he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torture me!"
NIVFor Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
NIVJesus asked him, "What is your name?" "Legion," he replied, because many demons had gone into him.
NIVAnd they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.
NIVA large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission.
NIVWhen the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.
NIVWhen those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside,
NIVand the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
NIVThose who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured.
NIVThen all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
NIVThe man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,
NIV"Return home and tell how much God has done for you." So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
NIVNow when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him.
8:41和合本有一個管會堂的,名叫睚魯,來俯伏在耶穌腳前,求耶穌到他家裡去;
NIVThen a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading with him to come to his house
NIVbecause his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him.
NIVAnd a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her.
NIVShe came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
NIV"Who touched me?" Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you."
NIVBut Jesus said, "Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me."
NIVThen the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed.
NIVThen he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."
NIVWhile Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. "Your daughter is dead," he said. "Don't bother the teacher anymore."
NIVHearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, "Don't be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed."
NIVWhen he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child's father and mother.
NIVMeanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. "Stop wailing," Jesus said. "She is not dead but asleep."
NIVThey laughed at him, knowing that she was dead.
NIVBut he took her by the hand and said, "My child, get up!"
NIVHer spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat.
NIVHer parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

NIVLate in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, "Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here."
NIVHe replied, "You give them something to eat." They answered, "We have only five loaves of bread and two fish-unless we go and buy food for all this crowd."
NIV(About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each."
NIVThe disciples did so, and everyone sat down.

NIVTaking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people.
NIVThey all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

NIVAnd he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."
NIVThen he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
NIVFor whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
NIVWhat good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?

NIV"Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."
NIVAbout eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.

NIVAs the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, "Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters-one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." (He did not know what he was saying.)
NIVWhile he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
NIVA voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him."
NIVWhen the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.

NIVI begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not."
NIV"You unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here."
NIVEven while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father.

NIV"Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men."

NIVAn argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.
NIVJesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him.
NIVThen he said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest."

NIVAnd he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;
NIVbut the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.
NIVWhen the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them ?"
NIVBut Jesus turned and rebuked them.
NIVThen he and his disciples went to another village.
NIVAs they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
NIVJesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
NIVHe said to another man, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
NIVJesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
NIVStill another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family."
NIVJesus replied, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

NIVBecause of this, God in his wisdom said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.'
NIVTherefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world,

NIVWhen Jesus went outside, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to oppose him fiercely and to besiege him with questions,
NIVwaiting to catch him in something he might say.

NIVWhy then didn't you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?'
NIV"Then he said to those standing by, 'Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.'
NIV" 'Sir,' they said, 'he already has ten!'
NIV"He replied, 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away.
NIVBut those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them-bring them here and kill them in front of me.' "
NIVAfter Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
NIVAs he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them,
NIV"Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
NIVIf anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' say, 'The Lord needs it.' "
NIVThose who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them.
NIVAs they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, "Why are you untying the colt?"
NIVThey replied, "The Lord needs it."
NIVThey brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it.
NIVAs he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.
NIVWhen he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
NIV"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
NIVSome of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!"
NIV"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."
NIVAs he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it
NIVand said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace-but now it is hidden from your eyes.
NIVThe days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.
NIVThey will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you."
NIVWhen Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling.
NIV"It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be a house of prayer' ; but you have made it 'a den of robbers.' "
NIVEvery day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.
NIVYet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.

Luke Chapter 20

NIVOne day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the good news, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him.
NIV"Tell us by what authority you are doing these things," they said. "Who gave you this authority?"
NIVHe replied, "I will also ask you a question. Tell me:
NIVJohn's baptism-was it from heaven, or of human origin?"
NIVThey discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Why didn't you believe him?'
NIVBut if we say, 'Of human origin,' all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet."
NIVSo they answered, "We don't know where it was from."
NIVJesus said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."
NIVHe went on to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time.
NIVAt harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
NIVHe sent another servant, but that one also they beat and treated shamefully and sent away empty-handed.
NIVHe sent still a third, and they wounded him and threw him out.
NIV"Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love; perhaps they will respect him.'
NIV"But when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over. 'This is the heir,' they said. 'Let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
NIVSo they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. "What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
NIVHe will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others." When the people heard this, they said, "God forbid!"
NIVJesus looked directly at them and asked, "Then what is the meaning of that which is written: " 'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone' ote style="f" caller="+"> 20:17 Psalm 118:22 ?
NIVEveryone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed."
NIVThe teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.
NIVKeeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.
NIVSo the spies questioned him: "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.
NIVIs it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
NIVHe saw through their duplicity and said to them,
NIV"Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?" "Caesar's," they replied.
NIVHe said to them, "Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
NIVThey were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
NIVSome of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question.
NIV"Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.
20:29和合本有弟兄七人,第一個娶了妻,沒有孩子死了;
NIVNow there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless.
20:30和合本第二個、第三個也娶過他;
NIVThe second
NIVand then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children.
NIVFinally, the woman died too.
NIVNow then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?"
20:34和合本耶穌說:「這世界的人有娶有嫁;
NIVJesus replied, "The people of this age marry and are given in marriage.
20:35和合本惟有算為配得那世界,與從死裡復活的人也不娶也不嫁;
NIVBut those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage,
NIVand they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God's children, since they are children of the resurrection.
NIVBut in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord 'the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'
NIVHe is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive."
NIVSome of the teachers of the law responded, "Well said, teacher!"
NIVAnd no one dared to ask him any more questions.
NIVThen Jesus said to them, "Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David?
NIVDavid himself declares in the Book of Psalms: " 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand
NIVuntil I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." ' ote style="f" caller="+"> 20:43 Psalm 110:1
NIVDavid calls him 'Lord.' How then can he be his son?"
NIVWhile all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples,
20:46和合本「你們要防備文士。他們好穿長衣遊行,喜愛人在街市上問他們安,又喜愛會堂裡的高位,筵席上的首座;
NIV"Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
NIVThey devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely."

NIVAs Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury.
NIVHe also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins.
21:3和合本就說:「我實在告訴你們,這窮寡婦所投的比眾人還多;
NIV"Truly I tell you," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others.
NIVAll these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."
21:5和合本有人談論聖殿是用美石和供物妝飾的;
NIVSome of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said,
NIV"As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down."

NIV"Teacher," they asked, "when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?"
NIVHe replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them.

NIVThere will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
NIV"But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name.
NIVAnd so you will bear testimony to me.
21:14和合本所以,你們當立定心意,不要預先思想怎樣分訴;
NIVBut make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.
NIVFor I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

NIVFor this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.

NIVJesus said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.
NIVBut you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.
NIVFor who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
NIVYou are those who have stood by me in my trials.
NIVAnd I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,
NIVso that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
22:31和合本主又說:「西門!西門!撒但想要得著你們,好篩你們像篩麥子一樣;
NIV"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.
NIVBut I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

NIVBut he replied, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death."
NIVJesus answered, "I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me."
NIVThen Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" "Nothing," they answered.
NIVHe said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
NIVIt is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors' ; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."
NIVThe disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords." "That's enough!" he replied.
NIVJesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.
NIVOn reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation."
NIVHe withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,
NIV"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
NIVAn angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
NIVAnd being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
NIVWhen he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.
NIV"Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. "Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation."
NIVWhile he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him,

NIVbut Jesus asked him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"

NIVAnd one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
NIVBut Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched the man's ear and healed him.
NIVThen Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs?
NIVEvery day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour-when darkness reigns."
NIVThen seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance.
NIVAnd when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them.
NIVA servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, "This man was with him."
NIVBut he denied it. "Woman, I don't know him," he said.
NIVA little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" Peter replied.
NIVAbout an hour later another asserted, "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean."
NIVPeter replied, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.
NIVThe Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times."
NIVAnd he went outside and wept bitterly.
NIVThe men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.
NIVThey blindfolded him and demanded, "Prophesy! Who hit you?"
NIVAnd they said many other insulting things to him.
NIVAt daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them.
22:67和合本說:「你若是基督,就告訴我們。」耶穌說:「我若告訴你們,你們也不信;
NIV"If you are the Messiah," they said, "tell us." Jesus answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me,
NIVand if I asked you, you would not answer.
NIVBut from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God."
NIVThey all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied, "You say that I am."
NIVThen they said, "Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips."

Luke Chapter 23

NIVThen the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.
NIVAnd they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king."
NIVSo Pilate asked Jesus, "Are you the king of the Jews?" "You have said so," Jesus replied.
NIVThen Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."
NIVBut they insisted, "He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here."
NIVOn hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.
NIVWhen he learned that Jesus was under Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
NIVWhen Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort.

NIVHe plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.
NIVThe chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him.

NIVThen Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate.
NIVThat day Herod and Pilate became friends-before this they had been enemies.
NIVPilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people,
23:14和合本就對他們說:「你們解這人到我這裡,說他是誘惑百姓的。看哪,我也曾將你們告他的事,在你們面前審問他,並沒有查出他什麼罪來;
NIVand said to them, "You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.
NIVNeither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.
NIVTherefore, I will punish him and then release him. "
NIV

NIVBut the whole crowd shouted, "Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!"

NIV(Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)
NIVWanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again.

NIVBut they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!"
NIVFor the third time he spoke to them: "Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him."
NIVBut with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed.
NIVSo Pilate decided to grant their demand.
NIVHe released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

NIVTwo other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.
NIVWhen they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals-one on his right, the other on his left.
NIVJesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
NIVThe people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is God's Messiah, the Chosen One."
NIVThe soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar
NIVand said, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself."
NIVThere was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.
NIVOne of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!"
NIVBut the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence?

NIVWhen all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away.
NIVBut all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
23:50和合本有一個人名叫約瑟,是個議士,為人善良公義;
NIVNow there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,

NIVGoing to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body.

NIVWhen he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
