Before exercise bikes were a staple in every athletic training facility, Taiwan was the world’s leading producer of bicycles. As fitness bikes and treadmills grew in popularity, the country’s manufacturing know-how made it an obvious choice for producing these fitness machines. Today, Taiwan is home to the top two fitness equipment companies in the world: Johnson and Dyaco. In this episode of Taiwan’s Mega Factories, we travel to Dyaco’s factory complex in central Taiwan. This manufacturing hub is home to the company’s six production facilities, including a component plant, assembly plant and packaging facility. Dyaco’s design center is also nearby; this is where the entire manufacturing process begins. Fitness equipment designers understand that many people do not enjoy exercising. Therefore, in addition to efficiency and ergonomics, designers also incorporate user-friendly interfaces that are easy to read and navigate. Efficiency is also a major consideration in Dyaco’s highly automated manufacturing process. Components are processed by robots with minimal human assistance, ensuring speed, safety and consistent quality.
